FAQs
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to see an Osteopath or Occupational Therapist.
What can I expect at my first Appointment?
An intake questionnaire will be e-mailed to you after you book your first appointment. Your practitioner will review this form on your first visit.
Osteopathy
Your practitioner will review your full medical history and goals for treatment. A full body assessment will be completed to determine your treatment needs and together you will establish a treatment plan. The remainder of the session will be dedicated to answering questions and completing treatment.
In subsequent sessions, the practitioners will do a short reassessment to continually re-evaluate your condition and monitor your progress. However, the majority of time will be spent on treatment.
Occupational Therapy
Your practitioner will complete a detailed interview to determine your needs and goals. Your practitioner may also complete additional physical, verbal or written assessments to determine your treatment requirements and goals.
The results of these assessments will be used to establish a treatment plan and the remainder of the time will be available for questions and treatment.
Ergonomic assessments will typically take place on-site and will require the presence of the person using the equipment or station. Changes may be made on-site or recommendations for equipment and support given. Written documentation of recommendations will be provided.
How many Osteopathic treatments will I need?
Many factors influence how many treatments you will require including the complexity of the condition, length of time the issue has present, age, etc.
Generally, patients will see results within the first 3-6 treatments over a period of 3-8 weeks.
Initially, your practitioner may want to see you weekly or bi-weekly, however, for maintenance many of our patients come 4-6 times per year or as seasons or activities change.
Does Osteopathy hurt?
No, Osteopathy is a gentle hands-on therapy that works with the structures of the body to re-establish alignment and function. Osteopathy does not force a structure into place so although you may feel stretching or pressure there should be no discomfort. There are no aggressive manipulations or forced cracks in Osteopathy.
How should I dress?
Please wear comfortable light-weight clothing that does not restrict your movement. A t-shirt or tank top are preferrable with shorts or sports pants/leggings.
What should I bring to my first Appointment?
If you have undergone recent examinations such as x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, or labs, please bring these with you to your first appointment. If you do not have them it will not prevent your practitioner from treating you but it is helpful to have this information.
Is it covered by my health benefits plan?
Many health benefits plans cover Osteopathy and Occupational Therapy.
Lynsey is registered with the Alberta Association of Osteopathic Manual Therapists and meets the standards outlined by the World Health Organization.
Check with your provider prior to your first visit to ensure you have coverage.
